Volunteer Opportunities
Our volunteers each contribute in some way to changing lives, and our community, for the better.
The simple gift of helping others help themselves has been the inspiration for the hundreds of volunteers
who've served with us over the past 25 years. As Top Floor Learning expands the scope and variety of its
programs, our need for caring volunteers expands accordingly.
Top Floor Learning is served by a volunteer Board of Directors and by a dedicated volunteer staff that
supports its operational and administrative needs. But it is a talented and committed cadre of volunteer
tutors that is the heart and soul of our wide-ranging program of adult literacy services. Volunteer tutors
each receive 18 hours of professional training to equip them with the tools to skillfully and confidently
coach adult learners in basic reading and writing skills, GED preparation classes, English-as-a-Second
Language programs or Citizenship preparation classes. In 2004 TFL tutors delivered more than 1100 hours
of one-to-one ESL instruction and nearly 1400 one-to-one hours in basic reading and writing instruction.
Tutor Training sessions are conducted throughout the year. Please call Top Floor Learning at (413) 283-2329
for additional information or to register for the next available Tutor Training session.
Volunteers contribute in countless other ways, assisting our professional staff and generally supporting
the administrative needs of the organization. Current volunteer opportunities include: assisting computer
lab instructors; assisting other teachers as necessary, maintaining TFL library of books, tapes, videos;
assisting TFL instructors and staff with classroom preparation and cleanup; general administrative support,
including reception desk, registration and records maintenance; outreach efforts, including fundraising
campaigns and special events. To serve us as a volunteer, or inquire further into volunteer opportunities,
please call Top Floor Learning at (413) 283-2329.
