"I was looking for something to do and saw an ad in the paper. I have a teaching background and I really enjoy teaching, so I thought this would be a good fit. I enjoy teaching ESL. It gives me a sense of fulfillment because the students are very appreciative. They take the work seriously and they are engaged in learning - that makes it a joyful experience. I've had over 30 years teaching in public schools. I've taught elementary, mostly in art, some1st grade, then 10 years teaching art at middle school. I was an assistant principal in Amherst, an elementary principal in West Springfield for two years, and taught education courses at Baypath for 2 ½ years. I joined TFL in 2008 and the experience so far has been very positive. I loved the tutor training and I liked the follow-up and sharing ideas. I've also volunteered at Baystate Medical. Now I volunteer at my church school and I recently joined the Trustee Board of Cancer House of Hope in Springfield."
Anita works with a beginning ESL student from Colombia, South America.
