"I'm here because I myself had to learn a second language and I know what I went through. Because of that I feel I can better understand the stages that an English language learner goes through. I'd seen ads for tutors in the papers for a long time. I had always wanted to do this, but because of my job I could not commit; I was working for the fire department in Monson at the time. After I retired, I began training as a tutor in 2007. I find this very fulfilling. I love to teach - I was trained as a teacher. I kind of get a high out of it really, when I know a student has made good progress. I've been a teacher for many years, and then I worked in Emergency Medical Services for 15 years. I've always continued to teach something - CPR, first aid, scuba diving. I think TFL is a very complete organization; there is something for everyone. It's a great facility with up-to-date technology. It's very professionally run and the tutor training is very helpful."
Nancy is currently working with two ESL learners, one from Poland and one from Turkey. She also helped to develop curriculum for the Bridge to College program where she teaches writing and research skills.
