"I've been Vice-President of Human Resources at Quabbin Wire & Cable Co., Inc. for 22 years. When my children were young, I completed the ESL tutor training and worked as an ESL tutor for several years. I also served as a board member of the organization when it was Literacy Volunteers of Quaboag Valley. I joined the board because I could see how the organization was helping people and I wanted to see behind the scenes and help direct programs.
Quabbin Wire & Cable has always been interested in helping the community in various ways. One of our main interests is workforce development, so we support a number of organizations in that area. Literacy is one of the fundamental keys to community prosperity, and programs like Top Floor Learning are vital for that reason.
I'm impressed that TFL is continuously evolving; the board and staff are always looking to update programs and meet needs as they arise. TFL's mission is broad, with flexibility to respond to new community needs while still teaching the core literacy classes. The organization stays current and relevant by finding ways to serve however it can. For an organization that has limited resources, TFL's accomplishments are amazing.
I appreciate the way the TFL team has evolved from teaching strictly academic skills to more comprehensive success skills, such as the Bridge to College program, Lifelong Learning and Financial Literacy. Having the opportunity to take these courses locally adds a layer of richness to the community."
