Reading, Writing and Math Program
AL101: One-to-One Instruction in Reading and Writing
Registration Fee: $75.00 for six months (minimum of 36 instructional hours).
This individualized program centers on the needs and goals of the adult learner; a trained
volunteer will work with the learner focusing on the listening, speaking, reading, and writing
skills necessary to cope with everyday life at home, in the community, and in the work place,
and preparing for the English Placement Test at community colleges.
Learners may register for successive six month cycles until their goals are met.
Prerequisite: Skills assessment before the first tutoring session.

AL103: Basic Math Skills for Everyday Life
Registration Fee: $30 for an eight-week cycle.
The program will focus on developing basic math skills of place value, estimation, rounding of whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, and measurement as well as becoming comfortable using a calculator. Each class will have a minimum of two and a maximum of five learners. This class will be offered three to four times a year.
Prerequisite: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers.
Prerequisite: Math assessment before the first class.
Requirement: Bring your calculator to class.

GED Preparation
AL104: One-to-One Instruction in Pre-GED Preparation
Registration Fee: $75.00 for six months (minimum of 36 instructional hours).
This individualized program centers on the needs and goals of learners working towards the GED; a trained volunteer will work with the learner focusing on reading, writing, and comprehension skills in the areas of GED Language Arts, Writing, Language Arts, Reading, Science, and Social Studies. Learners may register for successive six month cycles until their goals are met.
Prerequisite: Learner must be reading above a fifth grade level and complete a skills assessment before the first tutoring session.

AL105: Pre-GED Math Preparation: One-to-One Instruction
Registration Fee: $75.00 for six months (minimum of 36 instructional hours).
This individualized program centers on the needs and goals of learners improving their math skills; a trained volunteer will work with the learner focusing on the areas that need improvement. Pre-GED Mathematics content includes whole numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, percents, charts, graphs, and word problems. Learners may register for successive six month cycles until their goals are met.
Upon successfully completing the Pre-GED Mathematics skills, the learner will continue improving his skills in GED Mathematics. GED Mathematics content includes Numbers and Operations, Measurement, Data Analysis, Algebra and Geometry.
Prerequisite: Math assessment before the first tutoring session.
Requirements: Purchase of a Pre-GED Mathematics workbook (approximate price $15-$20) and a Casio fx -260 solar scientific calculator(approximate price $9.00)

AL106: Small Group Instruction for Pre-GED Math Preparation
Registration Fee: $30.00 for an eight week cycle.
The class will be made up of a minimum of two and a maximum of four learners within the same level of math skills. The program will center on the learners improving their math skills as they work towards the GED Mathematics test. A trained volunteer will work with the learners.
Pre-GED Mathematics content includes whole numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, percents, charts, graphs, and word problems.
Learners are expected to complete each cycle, and may register for successive eight-week cycles until their goals are met. Successive cycles will be developmental, building upon skills previously learned.

AL107: Writing Class: Pre-GED Language Arts, Writing
Registration Fee: $30.00 for an eight week cycle.
Improve Your Writing Skills As You Work Towards Your GED. The course will focus on writing skills: mechanics, usage, sentence structure, and paragraph development. Each class will have a minimum of six and a maximum of ten learners. Each class will be taught by trained volunteer tutors, one of whom will lead the class, assisted by other tutors.
Learners are expected to complete each cycle, and may register for successive eight-week cycles until their goals are met. Successive cycles will be developmental, building upon skills previously learned.
Prerequisite: Person must be reading above a fifth grade level, complete a Pre-GED Language Arts,
Writing pretest and a writing sample before the first class.
Requirement: Purchase of a Language Arts, Writing workbook (approximate price $15.00 to $20.00)

AL108: GED Half-Length Practice Tests
Registration Fee: $30.00
Determine your general readiness for the full-length GED. The 4 1/2 hour Practice Tests
includes tests in Language Arts, Writing, Language Arts, Reading, Social Studies, Science,
and Mathematics.
The two-day Practice tests will be offered monthly.
Upon completion of the tests, the Director will meet individually with
each participant to discuss the results.
