TFL Staff Bios
Lauretta St. George-Sorel, Director of Lifelong Learning, Financial Manager
Lauretta R. St. George-Sorel joined TFL in July 2011. She is responsible for managing the entire Lifelong Learning program, which included planning courses, interacting with instructors, timetabling, and contacting participants. She regularly updates the website and does the layout, proofing and mailing of the course catalogue three times a year, as well as manages the TFL mailing list. Lauretta holds a B.A. in psychology from Westfield State College and a Master's Degree in counseling psychology from Assumption College, where she was a teaching assistant in the psychology department. She retired from the Hampden Country Sheriff's Department as Family Services Specialist, implemented programs targeted to address incarcerated women's specific needs: creative writing workshops, a film/discussion series, and a mother-child visitation programs. She also taught Adult Basic Education classes to male inmates. She has taught Spanish at St. Mary's School in Ware and TFL, as well as creative writing. She is currently an adjunct faculty member in the English department at Holyoke Community College.
Gail Carneiro
Gail Carneiro started working at TFL in March of 2011. Prior to this position she was an Instructional Leadership Specialist in the area of English Language Arts for Springfield Public Schools in Springfield, MA. Her duties included, assisting teachers in the implementation of the Springfield Learning Outcomes and the State Curriculum Framework, and developing curriculum in Reading, designing programs and providing on-going feedback to teachers in these areas. She earned a B. S. degree in Education from Westfield State College and a Master’s Degree in Reading from the same institute. As a certified elementary school teacher she taught for several years before becoming a Reading Resource Teacher. Her position then changed to a Collaborative Professional Development teacher before becoming an Instructional Leadership Specialist. She was a member of the School Improvement Plan, 504 Decision Making Team, Educational Leadership Team, and the Student Teacher Assistant Team. She was on the Leadership Team that presented at “The Commonwealth Compass Schools Program”, in Boston MA, as her school was chosen as an Exemplary School, showing school improvement initiatives that made a difference for her students. Her workshop: “Using Data to Drive Instruction.” She has given workshops at American International College as well as the Hampden Teacher’s Convention. She is the co-author of “English Literacy 2001 Language Arts Scope & Sequence” and helped develop “Standard-Based Lesson Plans” for the city of Springfield, MA.
